White Rock Townhouses

In the city near White Rock, BC you may find luxury townhomes in gated communities, or you could see townhouses set back a little further from the beach that has open street access and visitor parking available throughout the complex. There are a few differences between townhouses, some details of which you may prefer over other types. For instance, some townhouses are duplex style, while others are row-house style (several of them connected all in a row). Private backyards and occasionally front yards are also typically available. Most townhouses have their own garage, which is a plus when hauling furniture, groceries, or other items into your home from the vehicle.

A difference between a Townhouse and a Townhome?

The short answer is no.
A townhouse and a townhome are exactly the same thing, but just two different—but similar—names.

What is Distinctive about White Rock Townhouses?

Normally a townhouses/townhomes are differentiated from other types of homes based on their design. Many are multi-level, with two-story types being most common. Much like a single-family home, a townhouse will typically have a garage of their own and a private front and/or backyard, albeit a much smaller yard. Otherwise, they are much like condos because they have at least one shared wall with a neighbor (except condominiums are usually only one level, inside a huge building with hallways, similar to an apartment building). A major plus is that you own the unit rather than rent. Standard townhouses may have 1-4 bedrooms, and 1-2 bathrooms, but there are larger townhouses available in some areas. Typically you pay annual real estate taxes and have strata fees.

What to look for in a Townhouse in White Rock

Townhomes located on the corner or end are usually the most sought after units, so may cost more; however, you should probably get some little extras for the added cost. Sometimes the corner unit’s size is larger, the home may offer other features inside, the privacy is better due to not having neighbors on both sides, and windows on one wall allow more light from the outside than townhouses that are sandwiched (allowing light in only from the front and back).
If a corner lot does not matter to you, then you can start looking at other features or benefits that the townhouse of your dreams may offer. Think about location, not just of the unit within the townhome complex, but also where the complex is located.

  • Is there a private street or is it located off a busy street?
  • How close is it to where you work or play (most people prefer to live within walking distance or a bike ride distance to work).
  • Are there parks nearby? Hospitals? Businesses you use often?
  • How close is shopping (think groceries first since you go there weekly, whereas other stores you may frequent less often)?
  • Consider financing options as well—can you afford the best or top townhome of your choice?
  • Is there a first-time homeowner’s deal that you can take advantage of to get into a townhome with only 5-10% down? Or perhaps you would prefer to put more money down and have a greatly reduced monthly payment (and less interest to pay over the long haul as well, which can save tens of thousands of dollars overall).

Speaking of financing, consider the cost

Townhouses right on the beach are usually higher priced or may have fewer bedrooms for the same price as a home a few blocks away. How much are you willing to spend to get what you really want? Most home buyers find that they do well to make a priority list of things they are unwilling to bend on (must-haves), while other things may be more flexible since buyers are willing to compromise on a few things.
No matter what kind or size or location you choose for your townhouse, know that you will be living there for a while, so make sure you choose wisely.
