This area of New Westminster is surrounded by parks, playgrounds, schools and recreation. It’s a perfect place to raise a young family. Glenbrook Middle School is located at 701 Park Cres New Westminster (604)517-5940 and is a french immersion school. New Westminster Secondary School and Herbert Spencer Elementary School are also located within this warm community’s border and all 3 schools are within walking distance for most.

Located just across from Queens Park and Glenbrook Middle School is the Canada Games Pool. It’s an indoor pool which holds swimming lessons for all ages and skill levels, water slides, hot tubs, saunas, a fitness facility and weight room, and multi purpose rooms for all kinds of activities and classes.

Next to the Canada Games pool is the Justice Institute of British Columbia. This is a training facility for Emergency Services and certain government positions. Here you can find where the local Police are trained as well as take part in Ambulance training or Firefighting training and programs. It’s a highly recognized institution for its strict code of honor, dignity and respect. Many brave individuals have graduated from this institution can gone on to save many lives and protect many innocent people.

One wonderful thing about the real estate in this area is it hasn’t lost its touch with the roots of the city. A lot of the homes here are what a lot of people call “heritage homes” or “character homes.” You will oten find homes here where the floor squeak due to the fact that floor is still the original oak flooring installed when the house was built over 100 years ago! You will also find homes with wood burning fireplaces and coved ceilings. Of course certain things will have needed to be updated over time like the drain tiles and some electrical and plumbing but a lot of these homes will still hold the unique characteristics of a older home built before a lot of us were even born.

The Detached homes in this area start in the mid $500,000’s and can go up in price to over the millions. You can commonly find homes with 5 or more bedrooms and fully finished basements with additional rooms used for additional rental income. A typical sized lot in this area is between 5,000 and 8,000 square feet.

*One thing to keep in mind in New Westminster is that a lot of the older homes here will have had oil tanks installed somewhere on the property and this can be a costly problem and there may be some things you may need to consider if the home that you are interested in has had this.
