New Westminster is a warm energetic yet practical place to live which is likely why, though such a small city, there is approximately 60,000 residents here. Many of the individuals living here are young families and working professionals who enjoy the convenience of the cities direct routes into downtown and all the great public transportation located within the are.

The three local schools in the area in case you are looking with a young family in mind are Richard McBride Elementary located at 331 Richmond St New Wesmtinster (604)517-6090, F.W. Howay Elementary School 91 Courtney Crescent New Westminster and Herbert Spencer Elementary School. The local secondary school for students in grades 8-12 is the New Westminster Secondary School.

Queens Park is located within this area. This park is fantastic and has many uses. Within the park there are many different sections used for many different activities to be enjoyed by all ages and nationalities. Within the park there is Rainbow Playland which has incorporated 2 playgrounds for children, a water park, and even its own petting zoo. All around this section of the park is beautiful trees, trails, open areas of grass, picnic tables, a concession stand and public washrooms. On Sundays in the summer you may even be able to catch a family friendly live performance in the band shell here! The park is also home to many competitive and recreational sports programs. There is some newer artificial turf which was completed in 2011 where soccer, lacrosse and softball is played on. There is also a proper diamond for hardball and slowpitch. The Queens Park Arena is also located within the parks grounds where the New Westminster’s Minor Hockey Association has most of its league games and practices.

The real estate in the area is pretty affordable considering it’s such a wonderful place. You can actually obtain a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment here for under $200,000! 2 bedroom Townhomes in the area tend to start at around $225,000, where as 3 bedroom townhomes in the area start at around $450,000 and above. Some of the homes here will come comlete with spectacular views and the builders will have added on bonus features like spacious verandas and large decks, where you can spread out your outdoor furniture and enjoy a barbeque or dinner party with friends and family.
