About Abbotsford BC

Abbotsford was originally incorporated in 1892 and named by the Maclure family after their hometown in Abbotsford, England. In 1910 the Electric Railway called “The Interurban Tram” linked Abbotsford with Vancouver and Chilliwack. It was later discontinued in 1950. Today, rail transit to Vancouver runs from the neighbouring city of Mission by way of the West Coast Express. The main road route from Abbotsford to Vancouver is through Langley and Surrey via the recently expanded Highway #1 and the brand new Port Mann Bridge.

The Abbotsford real estate market is driven by the city’s diverse economy that includes several industries including agriculture, transportation, manufacturing, and retail. Did you know that Abbotsford earns the highest agricultural dollar per acre than any other area in Canada? With a strong ethnic mix, Abbotsford is also named by StatsCan as our country’s most generous city in terms of donations given over the past 9 consecutive years.
